The day humans left

The Day Humans Left is a ‘sci-fi’ documentary about the pandemic and the forced isolation in our lives. With questions in mind about what is home, how can we really connect with other beings and each other, can we make boundaries disappear; I wanted to create this film that puts us, humans, in the spot of being observed by the animals.

Filmed during the lockdowns of the pandemic, the film is creating a meditative space allowing us to comprehend the dynamic relationships between species as well as our place in nature. How do animals act when humans are not there anymore?

When we were forced to isolate in our homes due to the pandemic, images of animals exploring the cities started circulating the internet. These videos became very popular and reminded us how disconnected we are from nature emphasising the barrier between the constructed and the natural environment. During that time, an environmentalist, Bill McKibben said that ‘we are in real need of this kind of images in order to heal and to revitalise us. We need a space that will allow us to rethink of our connection to the natural world as well as within ourselves and others’.
